I’ve been working at home since the art center closed in March. Finished one big new drawing, did a couple quick projects, and working on a couple of demonstration videos I hope to post soon. Meanwhile, it looks like the Dunedin Fine Art Center will start classes again with Summer I at the beginning of June. Classes will be limited in size, so register early. Safe practices include everyone having to wear masks, proper distancing and cleaning before and after classes. We will probably be in “art camp” mode with the adult classes being upstairs.

The first is The Secret Weapons of Colored Pencil on October 28 – 29. No matter your level of experience, you will learn tricks and tips to help you get the most from the very versatile medium of colored pencil. The instructor is a frequent show prizewinner and past MASF show juror who will explain what qualifies as “miniature” and provide expert guidance in adapting your skills to the smaller scale. Work with your favorite mediums and surfaces; some special surfaces and tools will be for sale at the workshop. Your brushes don’t have to be tiny, just have good points. Magnifying glasses are optional! (All registered participants are invited to a special pre-workshop tour of the exhibit with the instructor at 2 pm on Friday, February 1. Museum admission included.)

We have changed the date of the “plein air” colored pencil workshop to October 30. There is still time to join us for this casual, fun class at Wall Springs Park in Palm Harbor. Drawing on location helps develop general drawing skills, and it’s a wonderful way to record travels. Although no special materials are needed for this class, just some pencils and a good sketchbook, you’ll also learn about the equipment that makes working outdoors easier.
